Pastor Rob Davis: 1 Thess. 2:13-20
In 1 Thessalonians 2:13-20 we observe 4 aspects of Paul’s character.
- Thankfulness: Paul thanks God for the Thessalonians’ reception of the gospel.
- As the word of God (v. 13)
- Amidst persecution (v. 14)
- Passion: Paul condemns unbelieving Jews.
- Who killed Jesus & the prophets (v. 15a)
- Who persecuted Paul (v. 15b)
- Who displease God (v. 15c)
- Who hinder the gospel’s progress (v. 16a)
- Who are under God’s wrath (v. 16b, c)
- Compassion: Paul longs for the Thessalonians (v. 17-18).
- Humility: Paul commends the Thessalonians as a validation of God’s work in his ministry (v. 19-20).

Pastor Rob Davis: 1 Thess. 2:5-12
In 1 Thessalonians 2:5-12 Paul compels us to examine both what their ministry was and what it was not.
- Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy’s ministry was not:
- Based on flattering speech (v. 5a)
- Motivated by greed (v. 5b)
- Seeking glory from men (v. 6)
- Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy’s ministry was:
- Like a nursing mother with her babies.
- Gentle (v. 7a)
- Caring (v. 7b)
- Affectionate (v. 8a, c)
- Selfless (v. 8b)
- Like a father with his children.
- Working to provide (v. 9)
- Walking as a model (v. 10)
- Witnessing toward maturity (vs. 11-12)

Pastor Rob Davis: 1 Thess. 2:1-4
In 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 Paul shows us 3 characteristics of Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy’s preaching.
- Their preaching was fruitful (v. 1).
- Their preaching was bold & courageous.
- In the face of persecution (v. 2a, c).
- In the presence of God (v. 2b).
- Their preaching was not from wrong motives.
- Not from error (v. 3a) because God has approved them and entrusted them with the gospel (v. 4a).
- Not from impurity (v. 3b) because God has examined their hearts (v. 4c).
- Not in deceitfulness (v. 3c) because they speak to please God, not men (v. 4b).
