In Matthew 5:38-42 Jesus continues to challenge the external righteousness taught by the Pharisees by teaching three truths about our rights.

3. The original command is applied.
1. with regard to your dignity (v. 39b).
2. with regard to your rights (v. 40).
3. with regard to your freedom (v. 41).
4. with regard to your possessions (v. 42).
