Charles Sebold: Spirit and Scripture
- God can only be known by His revelation of Himself
- General revelation (generally revealed to all men)
Ps. 19:1-6; Rom. 1:18-23
- Special revelation (revealed as a special act to believers alone)
Ps. 19:7-14; Rom. 1:1-5; Acts 10:42,43; Rom. 1:16,17
- God’s revelation is only about Christ
- The Old Testament centered on Him
Acts 10:42; John 5:39,40
- The New Testament completes the revelation about Him
Heb. 1:2; Acts 10:42
- The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus
Rev. 19:10
- God speaks to us today through His Spirit
- The Spirit works to bear witness of the Son
John 15:26, 1 John 5:6
- The Spirit glorifies the Son in the persecution of the saints
Matt. 10:20
- The Spirit delivered “the words of God” and “all the truth” and “commands” to the apostles and prophets
John 3:34, 16:13; Acts 1:2
- The Spirit gives new life through the words of Christ
John 6:63
- The Spirit teaches and brings to remembrance what Christ says

- The Spirit fills people at times to empower them to accomplish great things for the kingdom of God
Acts 4:8,31
- The Spirit encourages the churches through Christ’s words
Rev. 2:7
- How do we replace the Spirit?
Col. 2:16-19
- By listening and keeping the traditions of men
Mark 7:6-8
- By believing that our heart’s voice is the same as God’s still, small voice
Jer. 17:9, 23:25-32; Col. 2:18,19
- By trusting in the works of the law rather than the promise of Christ in the Word
Gal. 3:2-6
- What must we do to walk in the Spirit?
Gal. 5:25
- We must apply ourselves to the study of the Word on a daily basis, to gather the raw materials which the Spirit will apply to our lives
Col. 3:16,17
- As we learn what the Word requires of us, we must not grieve the Spirit by failing to speak or act according to His Word
Eph. 4:25-32
- We must earnestly desire prophecy—that is, the testimony of Jesus
1 Cor. 14:1-5,39
- The test: if the Spirit bears witness to Christ, then we who claim to be filled with the Spirit must also bear witness to Christ, by word and deed

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 6:25-34
In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus presents us with two commands concerning anxiety that will keep us single-minded in our devotion to Him.
- The negative command: Do not worry about your life.
- As to what you will eat or drink (v. 25a, b, d; 26; 31a, b)
- As to what you will wear (v. 25c, d; 28-30; 31c)
- As to how long you will live (v. 27).
- The positive command: Trust God with your life.
- He already knows what you need (v. 32).
- Seek to be obedient to His kingdom (v. 33a).
- Seek to grow in His righteousness (v. 33b).
- Trust in God’s daily provision without worrying about tomorrow (v. 34).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 6:19-24
In Matthew 6:19-24 Jesus says that we must have a single-minded devotion to Him in three areas.
We must be single-minded in our devotion to Him with regard to our:
- Wealth.
- Don’t treasure up earthly treasures.
- Moths will destroy them (v.19a).
- Rust will destroy them (v. 19b).
- Thieves will steal them (v. 19c).
- Do treasure up heavenly treasures.
- Moths will not destroy them (v. 20a).
- Rust will not destroy them (v. 20b).
- Thieves will not steal them (v. 20c).
- What you treasure reveals your heart (v. 21)
- Wisdom.
- A clean heart results in spiritual understanding (v. 22).
- An evil heart results in earthly understanding (v. 23).
- Work.
