- God can only be known by His revelation of Himself
- General revelation (generally revealed to all men)
Ps. 19:1-6; Rom. 1:18-23 - Special revelation (revealed as a special act to believers alone)
Ps. 19:7-14; Rom. 1:1-5; Acts 10:42,43; Rom. 1:16,17 - God’s revelation is only about Christ
- The Old Testament centered on Him
Acts 10:42; John 5:39,40 - The New Testament completes the revelation about Him
Heb. 1:2; Acts 10:42 - The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus
Rev. 19:10 - God speaks to us today through His Spirit
- The Spirit works to bear witness of the Son
John 15:26, 1 John 5:6 - The Spirit glorifies the Son in the persecution of the saints
Matt. 10:20 - The Spirit delivered “the words of God� and “all the truth� and “commands� to the apostles and prophets
John 3:34, 16:13; Acts 1:2 - The Spirit gives new life through the words of Christ
John 6:63 - The Spirit teaches and brings to remembrance what Christ says
John 14:26, 1 Cor. 2:12,13 - The Spirit fills people at times to empower them to accomplish great things for the kingdom of God
Acts 4:8,31 - The Spirit encourages the churches through Christ’s words
Rev. 2:7 - How do we replace the Spirit?
Col. 2:16-19 - By listening and keeping the traditions of men
Mark 7:6-8 - By believing that our heart’s voice is the same as God’s still, small voice
Jer. 17:9, 23:25-32; Col. 2:18,19 - By trusting in the works of the law rather than the promise of Christ in the Word
Gal. 3:2-6 - What must we do to walk in the Spirit?
Gal. 5:25 - We must apply ourselves to the study of the Word on a daily basis, to gather the raw materials which the Spirit will apply to our lives
Col. 3:16,17 - As we learn what the Word requires of us, we must not grieve the Spirit by failing to speak or act according to His Word
Eph. 4:25-32 - We must earnestly desire prophecy—that is, the testimony of Jesus
1 Cor. 14:1-5,39 - The test: if the Spirit bears witness to Christ, then we who claim to be filled with the Spirit must also bear witness to Christ, by word and deed
