In James 4:7-10 we are shown four steps to true repentance through a series of ten commands.

  1. Submit to God (v. 7a).
  2. Resist the Devil.
    Promise: He will flee from you (v. 7b).
  3. Draw near to God.
    Promise: He will draw near to you (v. 8a).
    1. Attack your external behavior (v. 8b).
    2. Attack your internal behavior (vv. 8c, 9).
  4. Humble yourself before God.
    Promise: He will exalt you (v. 10).

In Acts 5:1-11 we are show six facts concerning Ananias and Sapphira’s deception of God.

  1. The act of deception is committed (vv. 1,2).
  2. The act of deception is revealed (vv. 3,4).
  3. The act of deception is judged (vv. 5,6).
  4. The act of deception is repeated (vv. 7,8).
  5. The act of deception is judged (vv. 9,10).
  6. The act of deception’s Judge is feared (v. 11).

In this second sermon on topics concerning personal revival we will examine 6 areas of Biblical teaching concerning humility which is a prerequisite to personal revival (multiple scripture passages).

  1. The Bible commands us to be humble.
  2. The Bible shows us situations in which men were humble.
  3. The Bible shows us situations in which men were not humble.
  4. The Bible shows us examples of men whose characters were humble.
  5. The Bible shows us specific ways to live humble lives.
  6. The Bible promises us rewards for living humble lives.

In Isaiah 64 Isaiah models for us 5 actions that will help prepare our hearts for revival.

  1. We must pray for God’s presence.
    1. In power (v. 1-2a).
    2. For His glory (v. 2b).
  2. We must remember God’s acts in the past (v. 3).
  3. We must remember God’s promises (vs.4-5a).
  4. We must deal with our sin.
    1. Recognize our sin (v. 5b).
    2. Confess our sin (v. 6a).
    3. Recognize our propensity to sin again (v. 6b).
    4. Recognize our apathy toward God (v. 7a).
    5. Recognize God’s displeasure with our sin (v. 7b).
  5. We must pray for God to act again.
    1. Mold us, Lord, for we are submitted to You (v. 8).
    2. Forgive us of our sin, Lord, for we are Your people (v. 9).
    3. Restore your house, Lord, for You are a jealous God (vs. 10-12).
