In James 4:7-10 we are shown four steps to true repentance through a series of ten commands.
- Submit to God (v. 7a).
- Resist the Devil.
Promise: He will flee from you (v. 7b).
- Draw near to God.
Promise: He will draw near to you (v. 8a).
- Attack your external behavior (v. 8b).
- Attack your internal behavior (vv. 8c, 9).
- Humble yourself before God.
Promise: He will exalt you (v. 10).

In Isaiah 64 Isaiah models for us 5 actions that will help prepare our hearts for revival.
- We must pray for God’s presence.
- In power (v. 1-2a).
- For His glory (v. 2b).
- We must remember God’s acts in the past (v. 3).
- We must remember God’s promises (vs.4-5a).
- We must deal with our sin.
- Recognize our sin (v. 5b).
- Confess our sin (v. 6a).
- Recognize our propensity to sin again (v. 6b).
- Recognize our apathy toward God (v. 7a).
- Recognize God’s displeasure with our sin (v. 7b).
- We must pray for God to act again.
- Mold us, Lord, for we are submitted to You (v. 8).
- Forgive us of our sin, Lord, for we are Your people (v. 9).
- Restore your house, Lord, for You are a jealous God (vs. 10-12).
