Pastor Rob Davis: Clear Conscience

As we continue in our study of personal revival we find that our consciences must be clear in two directions.

  1. Our consciences must be clear before God.
    1. In our position (Hebrews 9:11-14).
    2. In our practice (1 John 1:5-9).
  2. Our consciences must be clear before men.
    1. Non-believers (1 Peter 3:13-17).
    2. Believers (Matthew 5:23, 24).

Pastor Rob Davis: Deut. 30:11-20

In Deuteronomy 30:11-20 we find 4 crucial facts concerning the commandments of God that we must understand.

  1. We must understand that the commandments of God are not:
    1. Too difficult for us (vs. 11-14).
    2. Out of our reach (vs. 11-14).
  2. We must understand that the commandments of God are of vital importance for us.
    1. Our obedience to the commandments of God leads to life & prosperity (v. 15a).
      1. The commands:
        1. Love God (v. 16a).
        2. Obey God.
          1. His ways (v. 16b).
          2. His commandments (v. 16c).
          3. His statutes (v. 16d).
          4. His judgments (v. 16e).
      2. The blessings:
        1. Life (v. 16f).
        2. Prosperity (v. 16g).
    2. Our disobedience to the commandments of God leads to death and destruction.
      1. The sins:
        1. Turning from God v. (17a).
        2. Disobedience to His commandments (v. 17b).
        3. Worshiping other Gods (v. 17c).
        4. Serving other Gods (v. 17d).
      2. The Curse: Death (v. 18).
    3. We must understand that God has placed before us 2 choices:
      1. Life or death (v. 19a)
      2. Blessing or curse (v. 19b).
    4. We must understand that God calls us to choose life, which is:
      1. Loving God (v. 20a).
      2. Obeying His voice (v. 20b).
      3. Holding fast to Him (v. 20c).

February 10, 2008: 1 Peter 1:13-16

10 02 2008

Pastor Rob Davis: 1 Peter 1:13-16

As a necessary result of our salvation we are called to be holy, and Peter brings us four truths about this holiness in 1 Peter 1:13-16.

  1. Holiness is commanded by God because of His own holiness (v. 16).
  2. Holiness is required, because of our calling and our Caller, in all of our behavior (v. 15).
  3. Holiness is revealed to us in the word, not the world (v. 14).
  4. Holiness begins with a hope fixed on Christ (v. 13).
    1. With girded minds
    2. With sober spirits
