Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 12:43-50

In Matthew 12:43-50 Jesus teaches that those who are in a true relationship with Christ will be marked by 2 present realities.

Those who are in a true relationship with Jesus Christ will be marked by:

1. I. The present reality of the presence of the indwelling Christ.

   Otherwise stated:
   Reformation (v. 43) without regeneration (v. 44) results in regression (v.45).

2. The present reality of obedience to God’s will.

   Otherwise stated:
   The true family (vv. 46-49) will be truly obedient to the Father’s will (v. 50).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 12:38-42

In Matthew 12:38-42 we observe 2 aspects of a conversation between the arrogant Scribes & Pharisees and the Righteous One, Jesus.

1. The Pharisees make a request: We want a sign (v. 38)
2. Jesus responds with judgment: No sign but Jonah.
1. You are a wicked and unfaithful generation (v. 39a).
2. There will be no new sign (v. 39b).
3. That to which Jonah pointed is here (v. 40).
4. You will be condemned.
1. Witness #1: The men of Nineveh. They repented at Jonah’s preaching but you would not repent when I, the Greater than Jonah, am here (v. 41).
2. Witness #2: The Queen of the South. She believed the truth of Solomon’s wisdom but you would not believe when I, the Greater than Solomon, am here (v. 42).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 12:33-37

In Matthew 12:33-37 Jesus teaches 2 truths about the words we speak.

1. The words we speak reveal the essence of our being.
1. The example of a tree.
1. Principle described (v. 33).
2. Principle applied (v. 34).
2. The example of a treasure (v. 35).
1. Good produces good (v. 35a).
2. Evil produces evil (v. 35b).
2. The words we speak will be judged.
1. According to their usefulness (v. 36).
2. To reveal the essence of our character:
1. Righteous (v. 37a).
   or
2. Unrighteous (v. 37b).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 12:22-32

In Matthew 12:22-32 Jesus’ healing of a demon-possessed man prompts three different responses.

1. The crowd responds to the healing with amazement (vv. 22, 23).
2. The Pharisees respond to the crowd with an attack (v. 24).
3. The Messiah responds to the Pharisees with a sermon.
1. His introduction: Your premise is absurd.
1. Because it violates common sense (v. 25).
2. Because it is not how Satan operates (v. 26).
3. Because by it you stand judged (v. 27).
2. His main point: I am Messiah and My kingdom has come upon you with power (vv. 28, 29).
3. His conclusion: Your continued rejection of Me will result in your eternal judgment. (vv. 30-32).
