September 28, 2008Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 14:13-21
In Matthew 14:13-21 Jesus demonstrates part of His character by engaging in three acts of compassion towards the crowds and His disciples.
- Christ demonstrates compassion to the crowds.
- Jesus needs a break (v. 13a).
- The crowds need Jesus (v. 13b).
- Jesus heals the sick in the crowd (v. 14).
- Christ demonstrates compassion to the disciples.
- The disciples recognize the need but minister by sight, not by faith (v. 15).
- Jesus encourages the disciples to minister by faith (v. 16).
- The disciples again minister by sight, not by faith (v. 17).
- Jesus demonstrates the core principle of ministry by faith (v. 18).
- Christ demonstrates compassion to everyone.
- Jesus abundantly provides for the disciples’ ministry by faith (v. 19).
- Jesus abundantly provides for the crowd’s (and disciples’) physical needs (vv. 20-21).
