Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 16:1-4

In Matthew 16:1-4 we observe three results of the unbelief of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.

1. Because of their unbelief the Pharisees and the Sadducees, usually enemies, were united against Jesus (v. 1).
2. Because of their unbelief Jesus assesses the hearts of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
   1. You are worldly wise (vv. 2, 3a).
   2. You are spiritually ignorant (v. 3b).
3. Because of their unbelief Jesus condemns the Pharisees and Sadducees.
   1. You are evil because you keep seeking signs instead of seeing the Savior (v. 4).
   2. You are adulterous because you keep seeking signs instead of seeing the Savior (v. 4).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 15:21-28

In Matthew 15:21-28 we are shown 4 characteristics of great faith as Jesus interacts with the Syrophoenician woman.

1. Great faith is desperate (vv. 21-22).
2. Great faith is not presumptuous (v. 23).
3. Great faith has Christ as its object (vv. 24-25).
4. Great faith is humble (vv. 26-27).

Pastor Rob Davis: Matt. 15:1-20

In Matthew 15:1-20 Jesus has three conversations in which He teaches about holiness & true worship.

1. Jesus condemns the Pharisees & scribes.
1. The Pharisees & scribes come from Jerusalem to challenge Jesus (vv. 1-2).
2. Jesus rebukes the Pharisee’s & scribes.
1. You elevate the traditions of men over the commandments of God (vv. 3-6).
2. You are hypocrites (vv. 7-9).
2. Jesus exhorts the crowds (vv. 10-11).
3. Jesus teaches the disciples.
1. Follow the sovereign God, not the men of tradition (vv. 12-14).
2. It is an unclean heart that defiles a man, not an unclean body (vv. 15-20).

In Matthew 14:22-36 we are shown Jesus being involved in 8 Messianic activities as He demonstrates Himself to be The Messiah.

1. Jesus exercises Messianic authority.
   1. Over the disciples (v. 22a).
   2. Over the crowds (v. 22b-23a).
2. Jesus exercises Messianic wisdom (v. 23b).
3. Jesus exercises Messianic omniscience (v. 24).
4. Jesus exercises Messianic power.
   1. Over the sea (v.25).
   2. Over the storm (v. 32).
5. Jesus exercises Messianic provision (vv. 26-27).
6. Jesus exercises Messianic salvation (vv. 28-31).
7. Jesus receives Messianic worship (v. 33).
8. Jesus exercises Messianic ministry (vv. 34-36).
