Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 1:11-14

We can live our life with assurance and confidence because in Ephesians 1:11-14 Paul tells us that God has taken two actions with regard to our inheritance in Christ.

1. God has predestined us to receive an inheritance in Christ (v. 11a, b).
1. According to His purpose (v. 11c).
2. According to His will (v. 11d).
3. Resulting in the praise of His glory (v. 12).
2. God has guaranteed our inheritance in Christ.
1. By sealing those who hear & believe the gospel (v. 13).
1. in Christ
2. with the Holy Spirit
2. By giving the Holy Spirit as a down payment on our inheritance (v. 14a).
1. To be paid in full on the last day when God fully redeems His people (v. 14b).
2. Resulting in the praise of His glory (v. 14c).

Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 1:7-10

In Ephesians 1:7-10 Paul reveals to us five important truths concerning God’s gracious act of redemption.

1. Christ is the redeeming One (v. 7a).
2. Saints are the redeemed ones (v. 7b).
3. Christ’s death was the cost of redemption (v. 7c).
4. Forgiveness of sins is the result of redemption (vv. 7d-8).
5. Universal unity in Christ is God’s will in redemption (vv. 8b-10).

Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 1:4-6

In Ephesians 1:4-6, Paul presents 8 aspects of God’s plan of salvation that took place in eternity past.

1. The process God used was election (v. 4a).
2. The people God chose are saints (v. 4b—“us�).
3. The period in which this choosing took place was before time began (v. 4c).
4. The point of God’s choice is sanctification in love (v. 4d).
5. The product God produced through this predetermined choice was sonship (v. 5a).
6. The path through which God ordained this sonship was Christ (v. 5b & 6b).
7. The proportion in which God predestined us to adoption as sons was the good pleasure of His will (v. 6c).
8. The purpose for which God chose us for adoption was His own glory (v. 6a).

Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 1:1-3

In Ephesians 1:1-2 we find that the prescript to Ephesians contains 3 elements common to 1st century letters.

1. The writer is identified: Paul.
   1. An apostle of Christ Jesus (v. 1a).
   2. By the will of God (v. 1b).
2. The recipients are identified: Saints.
   1. At Ephesus (v. 1c).
   2. Who are faithful in Christ Jesus (v. 1d).
3. A greeting is given.
   1. Grace, from our Father God and the Lord Jesus Christ (v. 2a).
   2. Peace, from our Father God and the Lord Jesus Christ (v. 2b).

In Ephesians 1:3 Paul reveals six glorious facts about the blessings of God.

1. The blessed One is God the Father.
2. The blesser is God the Father.
3. The ones blessed are Christians.
4. The content of the blessings is everything spiritual.
5. The location of these blessings is in the heavenlies.
6. The means of these blessings is Christ.
