Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 3:1-13

In Ephesians 3:1-13 Paul explains his apostolic ministry by describing 2 gifts of grace he has received concerning the mystery of the gospel of Christ.

1. Paul has been gifted to be a steward of the mystery of the gospel of Christ.
   1. A steward of God’s grace in the mystery (vv. 1-2).
   2. A steward of God’s revelation of the mystery (vv. 3-5).
   3. A steward of God’s accomplishment through the mystery (v. 6).
2. Paul has been gifted to be a minister of the mystery of the gospel of Christ.
   1. A minister who preaches the mystery (vv. 7-8).
   2. A minister who explains the mystery (v. 9).
   3. A minister who understands the purpose and result of the mystery (vv. 10-13).

Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 2:11-22

In Ephesians 2:11-22 Paul presents three truths concerning the reconciliation and unity of the church.

1. Gentiles, though alienated, were reconciled to God.
   1. Alienated from Christ (v. 11-12a)
   2. Alienated from the nation of Israel (v. 12b)
   3. Alienated from the covenants (v. 12 c)
   4. Alienated from hope (v. 12d)
   5. Alienated from God (v. 12e)
   6. Reconciled by Christ’s blood (v. 13)
2. Jews and Gentiles were reconciled to each other by the blood of Christ, resulting in unity.
   1. Reconciled into peace (v. 14-15a)
   2. Reconciled into one man (v. 15b)
   3. Reconciled into one body (v. 16)
   4. Reconciled into one Spirit (v. 17-18)
3. Believers are unified in the body of Christ.
   1. As God’s kingdom (v. 19a)
   2. As God’s family (v. 19b)
   3. As God’s temple (v. 20-22)

Pastor Rob Davis: Ephesians 2:1-10

In Ephesians 2:1-10 Paul describes three stages of a believer’s life.

1. Stage 1 is the past reign of sin.
   1. Commanded by Satan (vs. 1-2)
   2. Controlled by lust (v. 3a, b)
   3. Condemned by God (v. 3c)
2. Stage 2 is the present reality of resurrection.
   1. The motivation is God’s character.
      1. His mercy toward us (v. 4a)
      2. His love for us (v. 4b)
   2. The immediate blessings are with Christ.
      1. Made alive with Him (v. 5)
      2. Ascended with Him (v. 6a)
      3. Exalted with Him (vs. 6b-7)
   3. The source is God, and God alone (v. 8-9).
3. Stage 3 is the future result of salvation.
   1. Good works (v. 10a)
   2. Good walk (v.10b)
   3. God’s glory (v.7)

Pastor Rob Davis: Eph. 1:15-23

In Ephesians 1:15-23 Paul offers two types of prayers for the Ephesians and for all believers:

1. Paul offers a prayer of Thanksgiving.
   1. For their faith (v. 15).
   2. For their live (v. 15).
2. Paul offers a prayer of intercession.
   1. Paul prays that God may grant the Ephesians wisdom and revelation of Jesus through the Holy Spirit (v. 17).
   2. Paul prays that since the eyes of their hearts have been enlightened:
      1. They will understand the hope of His calling (v. 18a).
      2. They will understand the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints (v. 18b).
      3. They will understand the surpassing greatness of God’s power toward us who believe (v. 19) as shown through:
         1. The resurrection of Christ (v. 20a).
         2. The exaltation of Christ (vv. 20b, 21).
         3. The authority of Christ (v. 22a).
         4. The headship of Christ (vv. 22b, 23).
